Steel vs wood framing

Why teams frame in light gauge steel.

Prepanelized light gauge steel against conventional stick-built wood framing.

01 Straight and consistent

No warp, twist or shrink

Steel does not warp, twist or shrink, so walls and floors stay flat and openings stay square.

02 Faster on site

Up to 50% less framing time

Prepanelized walls cut framing time by up to 50% and send less waste to the dumpster.

03 All-US steel

Made from US steel

Light gauge steel framing made from US-sourced steel.

04 Insurance

Lower insurance cost

When the entire structure is steel, including the roof trusses, insurers rate it below wood frame. Premiums can run 20–40% lower than frame for both builder’s risk and completed property coverage. Ask your broker to confirm for your project.

A steel frame with wood roof trusses is rated as frame, so the discount is lost. That is why we supply wall panels, floor trusses and roof trusses together.
